The one-of-a-kind design is inspired by a classic King Seiko from the late ’60s.
Taking advantage of one of the automatic Calibre 6L35’s greatest strengths, its remarkable slimness, this dress watch is as comfortable to wear as the original that inspired it.
King Seiko 45KCM
launched in 1969
This new series is based on the King Seiko 45KCM from 1969, whose characteristically curved silhouette inspired the design of other King Seiko creations that followed.
The new King Seiko series adopts the contours of the 1969 watch but reimagines them for modern times with a rounded, box-shaped glass. Thanks to Seiko’s modern watch manufacturing techniques and the slimline Calibre 6L35, the watches achieve a svelte and comfortable thickness of 9.9mm.
The multi-faceted index at twelve o’clock is designed with a pattern that evokes the feather fletching of an arrow, a feature familiar from traditional Japanese archery and a fitting detail for a watch that will glide under shirtsleeves. The hour and minute hands are cut on three sides, and they mark the time with a powerful radiance and a certainty toward the future.
The watches feature a new multi-row bracelet with mirror-polishing and brushed finishing to achieve a quiet sparkle when it reflects light.
The King Seiko “shield” returns, and the iconic silhouette of the original has been retained, though it has been flattened and modernised. The case back has been engraved.
The new series is offered with silver, purple, and green dials. The silver dial is textured to evoke the modern-day cityscape of Tokyo, where the King Seiko collection was born in 1961. The purple dial is made in the image of a traditional Japanese colour known as “Edo purple,” which was cherished during the Edo period. The green dial features a gradation that captures the natural greenery that has covered parts of the city over the centuries.
The watch is powered by the slimline Calibre 6L35 which has a power reserve of 45 hours.
This watch has the same specifications as the three creations joining the main King Seiko collection but features a light greenish-blue dial with a textured pattern inspired by a rising dragon, which serves as a metaphor for the Seiko brand progressing toward the next 100 years. The dragon is also the animal sign for 2024 in the Japanese zodiac, which remains a part of the country’s culture.
